New Cataract Lens Technology

New Cataract Lens Technology

If you've ever been unsatisfied with your vision after cataract surgery, you're not alone. That's why the Light Adjustable Lens was created - the first Intraocular Lens (IOL) that allows for customized vision after surgery. Thanks to this groundbreaking technology, Dr. Lindahl can now adjust your vision to your liking after surgery.

By choosing the Light Adjustable Lens, you have access to the only intraocular lens that can optimize your vision after the lens has been implanted and your eyes have fully healed. The process of cataract removal and IOL implantation is the same as with a non-adjustable lens, but with the added benefit of being able to customize your vision to your unique preferences and lifestyle requirements. Dr. Lindahl will work with you to select the Light Adjustable Lens and then apply a proprietary light treatment to reshape the lens precisely for your custom prescription.

One of the most unique features of the Light Adjustable Lens is that after your eye has fully healed, you will return to the Rochester Eye and Laser Center for a vision test. During this appointment, you'll have the ability to preview and compare various vision outcomes that are tailored to your individual preferences and lifestyle requirements. Once you've selected your desired prescription, Dr. Lindahl will use a specialized light treatment to precisely reshape your implanted lens, ensuring that it's customized to meet your unique needs. You may require up to five light treatments to achieve your desired vision goals.

The Light Adjustable Lens is made of a special photosensitive material that changes the shape and power of your implanted lens in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. Light treatments are delivered at our office with the Light Delivery Device (LDD).

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THE LIGHT ADJUSTABLE LENS?

Patients with preexisting astigmatism of 0.75 diopters or more who are undergoing cataract surgery can benefit from the Light Adjustable Lens, which is approved by the US FDA along with the Light Delivery Device.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY

After your surgery, you and Dr. Lindahl will collaborate to enhance your vision with the aid of UV light treatments. During this period, you'll need to wear the UV-blocking glasses we provide to safeguard your eyes from all other sources of indoor and outdoor UV light, which may cause unintended changes to the Light Adjustable Lens.

We understand how important it is to protect your newly adjusted vision. To ensure that your Light Adjustable Lens remains customized to your unique needs, we provide UV-blocking glasses that should be worn, from the time of lens implantation until 24 hours after your final light treatment. Once this crucial period has passed, you can finally say goodbye to those glasses and enjoy crystal-clear vision that's perfectly tailored to your lifestyle.
