I have never heard of the Zyoptix system before. Is it new?
While the Zyoptix system was only recently approved by the FDA to correct nearsightedness, the Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix personalized laser vision correction system has a proven track record. The world's leading eye doctors have used it in over 100,000 procedures outside the United States and the recent review by the FDA now makes the Zyoptix system available in the U.S.
What is the difference between the Zyoptix system and standard LASIK?
While standard LASIK has been a popular and effective means of vision correction, it does not correct for individual flaws and irregularities. The Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix system has the capability to provide customized laser treatment that is unique to each eye.
How will I know if I am a good candidate?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Have had stable vision for the past year.
- Have healthy eyes, good general health and are not taking medication that affects the healing process.
- Are age 21 or over.
- Feel glasses/contacts are a nuisance.
Please note that only your eye doctor can determine if you are a suitable candidate for the Zyoptix procedure based on appropriate diagnostic tests and medical history.
Does the procedure hurt?
No. The Zyoptix procedure is designed to be virtually painless with minimum discomfort. The actual laser procedure itself can be performed in a matter of minutes.
How will my eyes recover?
You should be able to see better 1-2 hours after the treatment, but you'll notice the dramatic difference when you wake up the next day. Most people get back to their normal routine quickly-even going back to work the next day. You may need to avoid contact sports and swimming for 2-3 weeks. Your eye doctor will advise you what is suitable for your individual needs.
What kind of impairment will Zyoptix correct?
Most people who are myoptic (nearsighted) can be helped by the Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix system. The Zyoptix procedure can even correct astigmatism.
Will I ever require glasses after my Zyoptix procedure?
Some people find that there are individual pursuits where they are more comfortable wearing glasses even after their successful Zyoptix procedure. Patients who suffer from presbyopia (mostly people aged 40-50) will require reading glasses after their procedure.
